The Australian Cricket Ball Standard (ACBS) was released in 2019 as a resource to support all current and future cricket ball manufacturers in providing quality cricket equipment to the community. It is also there to support the cricket community in understanding which balls are on the market that they can consider when choosing to determine balls to be used during matches and training.

The ACBS sets out a test program across pre-wear testing, wear testing, and post-wear testing which can be seen below:

1. Mass (pre-wear)
2. Centre of gravity (pre-wear)
3. Circumference (pre-wear)
4. Sphericity (pre-wear)
5. Colour (pre-wear)
6. Coefficient of restitution (pre-wear)
7. Stiffness (pre-wear)
8. Visual wear grading (wear)
9. Mass (post-wear)
10. Centre of gravity (post-wear)
11. Circumference (post-wear)
12. Sphericity (post-wear)
13. Colour (post-wear)
14. Coefficient of restitution (post-wear)
15. Stiffness (post-wear)

Upon completion of the test program, a report provided to manufacturer’s will detail each ball’s performance against each of the components of the test program. If a ball model is deemed to have met the ACBS, on the basis of the testing performance they will be assigned one of the following classifications:

Premier

Senior Turf

Senior Synthetic

This classification and the associated logo’s provided under license, can then be utilised by the manufacturer to communicate with current and future users of their cricket balls about their quality and performance under the testing conditions laid out in the ACBS. The classification is valid for two years from completion of testing, before requiring balls to be re-tested or have their classification and accreditation expire.

Catalogue

The below list of cricket balls have met at least one of the levels of classification after being submitted for testing against the ACBS. The list is current as at 19 June 2023.
